MATRIX

If you are like most people, you would like to own a Home Entertainment System. If you do, you may probably need something called a Matrix. When an entertainment system is comprised of multiple video components, such as set-top boxes, Blu-ray players and media servers, it makes sense to share all that content with every TV in your home. The common way to do this is through a device called a Matrix. Matrixes range from two inputs and two outputs, all the way up to 32 inputs and 32 outputs, or more.

For a modest home theater system, the HDMI ports on the back of your home theater receiver act as a Matrix. They allow you to plug in several HDMI sources and output each source to your display (TV or projector).

Some AV receivers even allow two HDMI outputs for two independent audio/video zones, but those tend to be very expensive receivers. If you want your video sources to be available on displays all over your house (or if you have a multi-display room) then you need a separate Matrix switch.

A Matrix is a hybrid of a switch and a splitter, performing both functions at once. A Matrix connects many sources to many destinations. Matrixes are most commonly used in retail showrooms, where they make it easy to have multiple TVs, projectors, and monitors hooked up to multiple media players.

Matrixes demonstrate a variety of audio and video hardware from a single remote control. At home, as mentioned, they can work in anything from a DIY recording studio, to an epic home entertainments system. Matrixes come in two distinct forms:

True Matrixes

These connect the sources and destinations in any configuration, which includes simultaneous, asymmetrical links. For example, a Matrix can send video from a games console to a pair of televisions while simultaneously sending a Blu-ray movie to a projector, and then swap them all around at the push of a button.

Matrixes are used in different environments, such as corporate boardrooms, command and control centers, classrooms, restaurants, and video conference rooms. There are different categories of
Matrixes that CTDPL offers, such as:

  • HDBaseT Matrix
  • HDMI Matrix
  • Modular Matrix

Matrixes are an increasingly common component in many smart homes, smart boardrooms, smart education spaces, smart retail showrooms, or anywhere else where multiple inputs and outputs are needed at the same time.
